Chungcheongnam-do announced on
June 20 that overseas participants for the 2022 Asian Cup Boryeong
International Yacht Championship were fixed.
The Asian Cup Boryeong
International Yacht Championship, the first official yacht competition in Korea
certified by Asian Sailing Federation (ASAF), will be held for five days from
July 20-24 at the Boryeong Yacht Competition area and Daecheon Beach.
The province planned to form
ten teams for the J/70 category, two domestic and eight overseas teams.
However, as interest from overseas players grew, the province decided to have
one domestic team and nine overseas teams to allow more overseas participants.
The list of overseas participants
for the Optimist category, in which youths under 15 participate, was fixed,
drawing keen attention after the announcement.
For the J/70 event, 40 players
will join from ten countries, including Korea, France, Denmark, Portugal,
Italy, Singapore, India, Malaysia, the Philippines, and New Zealand.
For Optimist sport, 60 players
will be participating from 11 nations, including Korea, Poland, Greece,
Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Pakistan, India, Indonesia, Singapore, and Japan.
The Boryoeng International Yacht Championship
will offer diverse programs for yacht competitions, yacht expeditions in the
West Sea, and tourism for participants and officials. The competition will be a
differentiated event in conjunction with the 2022 Boryeong Sea Mud Exhibition.
A provincial government
official said, “This championship will allow players to return to normal after
the protracted COVID-19 pandemic.”
The 2022 Asian Cup Boryeong
International Yacht Championship is organized by Chungnam Sailing Association, supervised
by the Organizing Committee for Asian Cup Boryeong International Yacht
Championship, and supported by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries,
Boryeong-si, Korea Sailing Federation, Organizing Committee for Boryoeng Sea
Mud Exhibition., and Boryeong Festival & Tourism Foundation.
