Chungnam Province declared on the 31st its plan to invest 40 billion won in the development of future ports safeguarded against disasters.

The ports targeted for this year’s facility expansion and maintenance include Boryeong New Port, Daecheon Port, and Maryangjin Port.

With the goal of serving as regional economic hubs, the province has allocated a budget of 40 billion won, an 11% increase from last year's 36.3 billion won.

Major projects include △construction of a dredged soil disposal site at Boryeong New Port, △construction of a management wharf at Boryeong New Port, and △new construction and expansion works at the Daecheon Port rock jetty.

Initially, the dredged soil disposal site construction aims to accommodate the increase in cargo volume for future ports in the Chungnam region by securing a planned site for port development, allocating 22.1 billion won for the expansion and dredging of the Boryeong Port channel.

The construction of the management wharf, intended to support the stable use of the port by incoming and outgoing vessels at Boryeong Port and to provide mooring facilities for service and government vessels for port operation and management, will receive an investment of 12 billion won and is planned to be completed by the end of 2025.

The new construction and expansion of the Daecheon Port rock jetty, which started in August 2020, are underway with a budget of 1.9 billion won, targeting completion in April.

Additionally, 500 million won is allocated for the development plan and strategy formulation of Boryeong New Port, and 2.5 billion won is designated for maintenance works of port facilities, precise safety inspections, and the maintenance of light buoys and floating bridges.

A provincial official stated, "We will ensure thorough management so that the projects can be completed without any issues. We aim to develop Boryeong Port, Daecheon Port, and Maryangjin Port into safe and pleasant harbors centered on the needs of users."
