On the 1st of the month, Kim Tae-Heum, the Governor of Chungcheongnam-do, participated in the "Bye-bye Plastic Challenge" from his office at the provincial government headquarters.

The "Bye-bye Plastic Challenge" is an initiative initially launched by the Ministry of Environment to promote nationwide efforts to reduce plastic usage. It is open for participation by all citizens.

Participants take a photo of themselves waving both hands to symbolize saying goodbye to plastic, and then they share their commitment to reducing plastic and the name of the next participant on social networking sites (SNS).

Governor Kim, during his participation in the challenge, stated, "In June of this year, Chungcheongnam-do became the first among all metropolitan autonomous regions in the country to prohibit the use and importation of disposable cups within government offices." He further emphasized, "Although many thought it was challenging, within just two months, the use of tumblers and reusable cups has become commonplace, leading to a reduction of over 30% in plastic waste. I urge everyone to take an interest and join in."

Governor Kim also announced the expansion of the plastic-free transition policy to all cities and counties in the province, as well as public institutions under the provincial government starting this month. He has designated mayors and county heads from 15 cities and counties, along with representatives from 19 affiliated public institutions, as the next participants in this initiative.
